Making the Pieces Fit: A Year of Collage

After the pandemic and during the summer that I was painting the Seasons of the River mural in Rotary park, I discovered collage. 2021 was a strange year, what with Covid-19 coming and going, we weren't yet sure what was happening or if anything would ever go back to normal, whatever that is in this timeline. After spending most of my days painting outside, which is very tiring, I would come home and still want to chill and create something. But painting and drawing wouldn't hold my interest, so I started flipping through my old tattoo magazines, cutting out pieces that were interesting to me. I also had a large stack of old calendars that I couldn't seem to part with, so I started cutting those up too. At first, my collages were very small and I made them on 3"x5" black card stock that I had in a little Moleskine book. I soon found that I wanted to go bigger and bigger, so I was also experimenting with surface materials. This show was the culmination of my first collage experiments and really was the first step on my collage journey.
